Höga Kusten Tour

Friday, September 11
You will be picked up by bus at Södra Berget at 9:00 AM for departure to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the High Coast.
We cross the famous High Coast Bridge and make a short stop for photos. We continue to “Utsikt Höga Kusten” – a scenic lookout point made accessible by a father who wanted his daughter, Nina, who had a disability, to be able to enjoy the view. Sadly, she passed away before it was completed, but today the site is open for everyone to experience, in her memory. Here, we will sample the world famous local delicacy fermented herring (surströmming), served by a chef who will share its history and tips on how best to enjoy it.

On our way towards Skuleberget, we enjoy a lunch prepared with local produce, celebrating the flavours of the High Coast.

The journey continues north toward mountain Skuleberget. We’ll take a scenic walk up to the top of the mountain.
(Those who wish can, weather permitting, climb the Via Ferrata – Northern Europe's longest climbing route, optional, approx. 395 SEK)
Regardless of how we reach the top, a traditional Swedish fika awaits us – with coffee, tea, and a freshly baked cinnamon bun.

Throughout the day, we’ll learn about the post-glacial land uplift and pass by the world's highest coastline – located on Skuleberget, 286 meters above sea level.

In the early evening, we arrive in Örnsköldsvik. Dinner is served at Strandkaj, a popular local restaurant by the waterfront, offering a relaxed atmosphere and carefully prepared dishes inspired by local ingredients.

After dinner, we check in at Hotel Statt, a historic hotel located in the heart of Örnsköldsvik, where we settle in for the night.

Saturday, September 12
After breakfast, we’ll be transported to the UNESCO World Heritage Skuleskogen national park where our hiking guide will meet us.
We carry our own hiking lunches (included). We enjoy a day in the National park with our guide with the goal to reach Slåttdalsskrevan.

After this wonderful experience in nature, we take a relaxing bus ride back to the hotel and dinner will be served in their elegant dining room.

Sunday, September 13
Breakfast is included at the hotel.
The rest of the day is at your own leisure.
From Örnsköldsvik, you can take a train south via Sundsvall or head north to Umeå if you prefer to catch a flight from there.

Equipment:

• Clothing suitable for the weather – it’s autumn in Sweden, so temperatures can vary. We recommend dressing in layers, with wind- and waterproof outerwear.
• Sturdy shoes or preferably hiking boots

• A small backpack for day hikes

• Cross the High Coast Bridge and visit Utsikt Höga Kusten
• Guided hike in Skuleskogen National Park to Slåttdalsskrevan
• Local food experiences including surströmming tasting and Swedish fika

Price: 6195 SEK per person in single room. Double room price available on request.
Optional Via Ferrata at Skuleberget: approx. 395 SEK per person (weather dependent).

Minimum age and physical fitness suitable for moderate hiking required.
Equipment: Weather-appropriate layered clothing, wind- and waterproof outerwear, sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and a small backpack for day hikes.
